An
Athlete’s Worst Nightmare Come True
It is imperative that your muscular system has the
ability to recover from the stresses of exercise. As an athlete or exercise
enthusiast with a muscular system that isn’t recovering, this leads to more
injuries and constant internal battles. I know this first hand because this is
my story.
I experienced every athlete’s worst nightmare.
As a college soccer player, at the age of 19, I could no longer recover from
repetitive stress induced from exercise and competitions. This led to numerous
injuries, chronic tightness, muscle pain and eventually a lower back injury
which ended my soccer aspirations.
My body had reached a point where my muscles weren’t
recovering no matter how I approached my issues. I knew as an athlete what I
wanted to accomplish but hadn’t a clue on how my body functioned on a mechanical
level to get me there. My lack of knowledge and chronic symptoms led to my
surgical fusion. In some cases surgery is the most logical option but I believe
it is what you do pre-surgery and post surgery that can lead to a full
recovery.
After years of chronic pain and repeat injuries, I
knew the only way I could achieve a complete recovery was that I needed to learn
how to heal myself. I became a Certified Personal Trainer, discovered MAT and
became a Muscle Activation Specialist, and developed my Core Restore Program to
help athletes and exercise enthusiasts never go through the extreme hardship
that I had endured for the last 22 years.
I am now 41 years of
age and for the first time this summer I am able to participate in the sports I
love and exercise without becoming injured. I contribute my success by building
a strong foundation that allows by body to function more effectively and
efficiently.
